Interpreting changes

When several assessments using the same test have been recorded, ABAK can automatically compare the two most recent results to help visualise changes over time.

The change is interpreted as improved, stable, worsened or undetermined according to the difference observed between the measurements and the threshold selected for the test concerned.

When measurement properties are available, ABAK primarily uses values reported in the scientific literature—for example, MDC, SDC, SEM or other indicators of change, depending on the test. When these data are unavailable or difficult to apply, a pragmatic threshold may be used. Some tests do not provide any automatic interpretation of change.

This guidance is intended to highlight variations that may be relevant while limiting the overinterpretation of fluctuations related to measurement error.

This interpretation guidance does not replace the healthcare professional’s clinical reasoning and must always be considered within the patient’s overall context.

💡 Please note

The thresholds used by ABAK may vary from one test to another to reflect the available scientific evidence and the specific characteristics of each assessment tool.
